A Taste of Honey, Burton Rd, Didsbury

I’ve walked by this cute little place quite a few times and have always wanted to pop in! I finally managed to grab a coffee and what a little treat it was!

Here’s my review of A Taste of Honey, Didsbury.

We dropped by before we took on a long drive a few weeks ago. Since it was early, I opted for a Latte and a cute little vegan doughnut covered with white chocolate, pistachios and edible dried flower petals. Tom also got a Latte and decided to have the Egg and Bacon on bread.

Whoops… I already took a bite!

Whilst waiting for our order we stepped inside to have a look at the produce around the cafe. Although small, they have made good use of the walls to display a variety of different jars – peanut butters, sesame butters, honey and sauces. They also stock bread and have a fridge with an array of cool drinks.

The cafe has a really lovely feel and it is evident that they support other local businesses – always so good to see! The team have amazing attention to detail and there are plenty of things to look at!

The produce used to make the food they serve is from local suppliers and growers. Their menu is fresh and so varied that it was difficult to decide! Keep up to date with their stock by following their Facebook page – A Taste of Honey.

On thing that I really appreciate is their Book Swap section. This is such a cute idea and it looked amazing in their cafe. I’d have loved to join in but I was only carrying a book I was half way through – I’ll definitely drop one next time!

Although we just popped in to A Taste of Honey for a coffee and treat to fuel us for the long drive to Ingleton, we had a lovely experience. The team were really friendly and welcoming. The cafe has a great rustic feel and fits right into the vibe of Burton Road (which is full of cool independents!). I can’t wait to visit and take part in their book swap!

Thanks for a great coffee – we’ll definitely be back and I recommend this cute little place to anyone in the Manchester area!

Bean and Cole, Chester

I absolutely l o v e the city of Chester so I’m going to start by suggesting that you go! There is plenty to do around the centre and there are loads of cute (independent and chain) coffee shops. This is a major pull factor for me!

I visited Bean & Cole with a friend who highly recommended the place. She thought I’d love it and she was absolutely right!

First of all, I absolutely love the green shop front and cute window art! It draws you right inside from Frodsham Street!

The shop interior is minimalistic but it works. With exposed brick walls and wall art, there’s a variety of seating areas and despite being quite a small unit, the team have created ample space for plenty of visitors. The minimalist lighting around the shop results in a warm and comfortable vibe, attracting a variety of customers.

On entrance, the staff are strikingly friendly and provide a lovely warm welcome.

Bean & Cole is a dog friendly coffee shop – can you spot the puppy!?

The drinks menu is vast meaning there’s plenty to choose from, whatever you’re in the mood for (even for non coffee lovers)! I chose a Latte which came in a really cool mug with the artistic flare I so greatly appreciate. The coffee was smooth, rich and a good size.

I also opted for something sweet to eat. I chose the Açai Bowl which gets a 10 out of 10 from me! It was absolutely delicious, consisting of a red berry smoothie mixture, granola, fresh fruit, coconut flakes, chai seeds and peanut butter. This is by far one of the freshest dishes I have ever ordered from a coffee shop.

Made in house, I can not knock the quality of the dish or the fresh, local produce it consisted of.

Fresh, local produce

The Bowl itself was really artisan and handmade by Fire Station Square Pottery in my home town of Salford – check them out (link at end of post).

As I’ve alluded to already, the staff were so friendly, attentive but also respectful of our current social restrictions.

All in all, I am so glad I visited this coffee shop and I will be back, without doubt!

Let me know what you think if you pay Bean & Cole a visit!

Gran T’s Coffee House, Altrincham

This is one of my absolute favourite places on the face of the earth. I really don’t know how I’ll do it justice in my review but I’ll try to explain to you just how wonderful Gran T’s is and why.

This Coffee House has been built around immense attention to detail so this review will open with a description of the incredible aesthetic of Gran T’s.

First of all, the colour of the shop front is a distinctive blue, but even more eye-catching is the b i k e situated above the front entrance. This funky feature definitely grabs (and holds) your attention and is what led me to walk through the doors for the first time almost 3 years ago.

Laura and Chris of Gran T’s Coffee House

The image of Gran T’s is all down to owners Chris and Laura (pictured), with the Coffee House being modelled on the original Gran T’s (Chris’ Gran Taylor’s) home. The result is a homely and cosy place with trinkets, vintage light shades and wall features. However, this is not at the detriment to space. There are plenty of comfy seating areas alongside perfect study desks, too.

I love to sit and study in these cosy little booths!

This immense attention to detail means the counter, indoor and outdoor seating areas and even the toilets are absolutely beautiful. The result is a modern yet homely vibe and comfortable atmosphere. To me, Gran T’s is a home away from home.

So, what is the menu like at Gran T’s?

First of all, the coffee is without a doubt the best for miles around (and there are plenty of other Coffee Houses in the surrounding area!) It is smooth, amazing quality and always well presented. The take out cups are just as pretty as their mugs and the staff never fail to work some coffee art into your beverage!

The food menu at Gran T’s is really tasty and, again, is well presented. Their savoury selection includes a variety of fresh sandwiches and soups. Since much of what they offer is made in house, their menu changes regularly meaning you can never get bored! The team are dedicated to providing plenty of options. They also cater to allergies, gluten intolerance and vegetarians.

Gran T’s also always have a crazy selection of sweet treats. Whether you’re in the mood for a Colourful Cake, vegan Banana Bread or a Toasted Teacake, they have it ready and waiting for you with a smile!

Amazingly, they also provide an Afternoon Tea experience which is currently available to take out.

Not only is the quality of food on offer high at Gran T’s, but the cost is reasonable, especially when compared to other outlets!

Throughout the year, the team at Gran T’s hold events and offer function room hire, too. They put on crafty workshops, – i.e Wreath Making – house various social groups such as Knit and Natter and offer ticketed Cinema Nights over the festive period. I would highly recommend you follow their social media accounts – listed at the end of this post – to keep informed about what they are up to and what events they have coming up.

By far the most notable element of Gran T’s Coffee House is the people. The people that work at Gran T’s are so genuine and absolutely lovely. Since opening just over 3 years ago, all of the team members are chatty, efficient and friendly, never failing to put smiles on faces as customers walk through their doors.

Since Lockdown precautions were enacted in the UK, the team at Gran T’s have acted with integrity and have always put the safety of their customers first. Chris and Laura have ensured that the team are fully equipped to serve the public and since reopening I can not fault their conduct, as always.

Let me know about your experience in the comments if you pay them a visit!
